Frequently asked questions
How do I share a recording with family?
In Admin mode, open a story and tap the share button to send a single recording. To share several at once, use the Backup button to export a .zip file containing all the selected recordings and their images. If your family or friends also have Homemade Stories installed, they can open the .zip file directly in the app and it will be added to their library.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Recordings are saved locally on your device, so kids can listen anywhere — on a plane, in the car, or tucked up at bedtime — without needing an internet connection.
Are there ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases?
No. Homemade Stories is a one-time purchase with no ads, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases. We wanted a children's app that parents could hand over without worrying.
Can I download stories from inside the app?
No. Stories cannot be downloaded from a catalogue inside the app — Homemade Stories is designed for stories recorded by you, or imported from friends and family. The app comes with 2 sample stories in English to get you started, and these can be edited or deleted at any time.
How do I stop my child from accidentally exiting the app?
We recommend turning on iOS Guided Access, which locks the device to a single app until you enter a passcode. It's perfect for handing your phone or iPad to a young child without worrying that they'll wander into other apps, settings, messages or the App Store. To enable it: open Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access, turn it on and set a passcode. Then, in Homemade Stories, triple-click the side (or home) button to start a Guided Access session. Triple-click again and enter your passcode to exit.
Available languages
Homemade Stories is available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish — so storytellers and little listeners around the world can enjoy it in their own language.
